An Afternoon in Norway: The Kongsberg Concert
Deluxe 2-CD Set
Includes 24-Page Booklet
A stunning new collection of never-before-heard performances by the legendary alto saxophonist Art Pepper, An Afternoon in Norway: The Kongsberg Concert, arrives as a limited, 180-gram two-LP set on Record Store Day from Elemental Music.
This remarkable archival discovery—which will also be released in a two-CD edition—was produced by the award-winning “Jazz Detective” Zev Feldman in collaboration with Laurie Pepper and the Art Pepper Estate.
Feldman says, “Art Pepper is one of the most revered figures in jazz history, and his music continues to inspire listeners around the world. These never-before-released recordings add another chapter to his legacy. We take great care in presenting Pepper’s work in the best possible way, ensuring that these packages are something fans will cherish for years to come.”
An Afternoon in Norway features recordings from Art Pepper’s memorable 1980 performance at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival in Norway. Captured at Kongsberg Kino with his outstanding quartet—pianist Milcho Leviev, bassist Tony Dumas, and drummer Carl Burnett—Pepper delivers a powerful and expressive performance, filled with the passion and brilliance that defined his career.
Both the LP and CD editions of the package include an essay by renowned jazz authority Marc Myers; exclusive reflections from Laurie Pepper, Tony Dumas, Carl Burnett, and saxophonists John Zorn and Rudresh Mahanthappa; and rare photos from the concert.
