Pure Smokey was William “Smokey” Robinson’s second solo album after leaving The Miracles. It was issued on Motown’s Tamla label in 1974 and presents mostly songs composed by Robinson himself along with Marv Tarplin, another ex-Miracle, who after leaving the group joined Robinson in California in order to assist him in the production of his projects. Among other hits, it includes the singles “Virgin Man”, and “It’s Her Turn to Live,” the latter a tribute to the sister who raised him. “Her Turn to Live” peaked at #82 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #29 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart in 1974.
