A fascinating John Lee Hooker LP featuring Northern Irish singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer Van Morrison, that mixes the rootsy blues of John Lee Hooker and some of the best studio musicians from ABC Records’ stable, including Clifford Coulter on piano, Sugarcane Harris on violin, Oscar Brashear on trumpet, Mel Brown on bass, George Bohannon on trombone, and John Klemmer (Impulse!) on electrified sax. These players all have a great ear for combining jazz, blues, soul, and funk – and help Hooker create the set for one of his finest artistic endeavours ever  – in a record that nods strongly at the new generation, yet never panders to it at all.
