Barry Harris – Live in Tokyo – CD

Recorded live during a two-week, eight-city, ten-concert tour of Japan, this document features pianist Harris, accompanied by veteran bassist Sam Jones and the irrepressibly swinging drummer Leroy Williams, paying tribute to bebop icons Bud Powell, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie at Yubin Chokin Hall and Nakano Sun Plaza Hall in Tokyo in April 1976. The Detroit bebopper swings in unbridled fashion on these tracks that represent the apex of piano trio jazz in the mid ‘70s. “Harris is the consummate bebop piano player, drenched in the Bud Powell tradition, he is nonetheless one of the most distinctively individual keyboard artists.” – Doug Ramsey (Radio Free Jazz)
