Vinícius’ lyrics were essential in the birth of the Bossa Nova genre. Legendary Brazilian guitarist Baden Powell also contributed his immense talents to the effort. The recording also features arrangements by another essential musician in Brazilian’s popular music: Moacir Santos.
Vinícius de Moraes and Odette Lara make a wonderful team. The breathtaking “Samba Em Prelúdio” is a delightful duet. On “Deve Ser Amor,” playful reeds and high-note trumpet accent a smooth,
powerful vocal by Lara. “Berimbau” and “Labareda” have beautiful renditions, and it’s impossible not to sketch out a smile
when listening to “Mulher Carioca”, knowing that Vinícius got married no less than eight times. But the true highlight here is undoubtedly “Samba da Bênção”, a true classic.
