B. B. King – Live & Well – LP

Elemental Music presents a newly remastered 180 gram LP reissue of B.B. King’s Live & Well album, the last he released on the Bluesway label. After working with jazz producer Bob Thiele in the 1968 LP Lucille, the King of the Blues followed it with Live & Well, an interesting combination of live and studio tracks. Produced by then 26-yearold Bill Szymczyk, who later became one of rock music’s most successful and prolific producers, the album consists of five live tracks (Side A) recorded at New York’s Village Gate, and five studio tracks (Side B) recorded at The Hit Factory studios. The live side includes classic performances such as “Don’t Answer the Door”), old favorites like “Sweet Little Angel”, and newer material (“Just a Little Love”). The “well” session has a more funky soul vibe. King grooves convincingly on the chugging “I Want You So Bad” and “Let’s Get Down to Business”. The funky “That’s Why I Sing the Blues” closes the album.
